10U Build Out Line...

As part of it's Player Development Initiative, AYSO has adopted the build out line staring in the 2017 Fall season for the 10U division.  The following is a brief description of how the build out line works.

The build out line (BOL) will be marked by cones halfway between the center line and the top of the penalty area.
There is no offside when play occurs between the two BOL's.

On goal kicks, opposing team players must retreat behind the BOL until the ball is kicked.   Once kicked, opposing players may cross the BOL, but cannot play the ball until it has crossed the penalty area.

On goal keeper possession, once the goal keeper has possession of the ball, opposing players must retreat behind the BOL until the ball is released by the goal keeper.  The goal keeper is not allowed to punt the ball, but may place the ball on the ground and kick it to a teammate.  The ball is in play once the ball touches the ground.

In both cases, the ball must be released or kicked to a teammate who is in front of the BOL.  If the ball is not kicked to a teammate and goes beyond the BOL, an indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team at the spot the ball was kicked.
